Mother’s Pudding for Mama Dogs

A regular Goat Milk customer of ours started visiting us the first time around when her sweet Mama dog was getting ready to have her litter of pups. She didn’t just want to give goat milk to her for hydration purposes; she wanted to supplement her feeding and nourishment in a way that would help the new mama get the calories she needed post-delivery. Hungry pups will deplete a lactating mama quickly, and it’s important to make sure she gets all she needs to maintain her own health, while her babies grow and develop.

Our customer mentioned a special meal she prepares for Mama, and this is it. Make as much as you need to help support your lactating Mama, and she recommended feeding her this twice a day post-delivery, along with her other quality food. If these pictures are any indication, it’s worth making and serving to your new Mamas!

Note: For lactating dams only • High‑calorie, easily digestible supplement
Consult your veterinarian before use, as each pet has it’s own dietary needs and issues.

Ingredients

  • 1 package cook‑and‑serve vanilla pudding mix
(Do not use instant pudding; it can cause diarrhea in puppies.)
  • 4 cups Goat Milk
  • 4 egg yolks (Reserve whites for other uses or cook and add to kibble)

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, whisk the egg yolks into the milk until smooth.
  2. Add the pudding mix and sugar; whisk well.
  3. Cook over low to medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened to a custard‑like consistency. Do not allow it to boil rapidly.
  4. Remove from heat and cool to lukewarm before serving.

Serving & Storage

  • Serve warm; most dams will readily lap it up postpartum.
  • Amount varies by dog and litter size; large dams may consume up to two batches per day.
  • Store in the refrigerator in jars or containers.
  • Reheat gently to lukewarm before serving leftovers.

Tips

  • Loose stools: Add 2–4 cups canned pumpkin puree per batch to help firm stools.
  • Important: This calcium‑rich recipe is only for use after whelping. Not recommended for feeding during pregnancy.
