Benefits and Serving Suggestions for Pets

Some of the most common questions we encounter with our Goat Milk for Pets are, (1) how does it benefit my pet, and (2) how much should I give them each day, (3) and how do I prep it for my pet? We decided it would be a good idea to just have these answers in the blog, that way it would be accessible 24/7 and we could easily share the details with folks. So here you go!

Possible Benefits for Pets

  • Aid their digestion
  • Lessen inflammatory problems
  • Support their immune system
  • Provide probiotics and fat acids
  • Imparts key antioxidants, vitamins and minerals
  • Improve coat and skin condition
  • A tasty. nutritional way to get more moisture into their diet

These are really just a few benefits, and there are many more on the internet, so just search a bit and you’ll learn even more than we’ve shared here.

Serving Quantities

Because goat milk is a supplement for your pet, a bowl of it once a day should suffice. If you want to divide their portion into two servings for the day, I’m sure they’d be fine with it 🙂 We list these suggestions based on the weight of your pet:

  • Pets of 1-10 pounds – 1/2oz -1oz per day
  • Pets of 10-20 pounds – Up to 2 oz per day
  • Pets of 20-50 pounds – Up to 4oz per day
  • Pets of 50-80 pounds – Up to 8oz per day
  • Pets 80 pounds or more – Up to 10oz per day

You can see how your pet prefers the temperature of their milk, too. If warmed, 90 degrees is perfect. For instance, our dogs enjoy their milk cold or warm, while our cat prefers it warm. Test a little with your pet to get their preference.

Suggestions on Thawing and Prep

Thawing the milk is the first step, and we recommend doing so in the fridge, so it doesn’t warm too much. The perfect fridge temperature is 36-37 degrees to keep the milk at its best. Separation of the curds (butter fats) and whey (the yellowish liquid) is completely normal, as the fats are very heavy, and freezing pushes these elements apart. Stick blend or shake vigrously to incorporate them back together.

Single Serving Idea: Ice Cube Trays
Pouring the thawed milk into ice cube trays then refreezing, allows for you to control both serving size and spoilage of the milk. While the milk can last a week to 10 days in the fridge, putting it in single-serving portions gives you more time and less waste. You can make fun and cool treats for your pets when the temps get hot!
