Make & Takes on the Farm

Please Note: This Event is POSTPONED

I’m postponing the visible mending class for now; this season is packed with farm projects, events, and obligations, and I’ve only got two hands! I’m looking forward to offering it again when the timing is better. 🙂 Sorry for the inconvenience and refunds are already processed. Thanks a bunch for your understanding!

Visible Mending Workshop
May 31, 2026 1-3PM
Location: Lower Porch – Hop & Hen Farm – 39010 N. IL Route 59, Lake Villa, IL

Visible mending embraces the idea that repairs don’t need to be hidden. Using simple techniques like patch making, darning, sashiko style stitching, and decorative embroidery, you’ll reinforce worn areas while adding character and charm. We’ll provide embroidery thread, darning needles, darning eggs, fabric scraps, and plenty of guidance as you work.
Settle in for a relaxed, hands on workshop devoted to the art of visible mending. Bring a well loved garment you’d like to save—a sweater with a worn elbow, a shirt that deserves a second life—and learn how to repair it in a way that’s both sturdy and beautifully intentional.
This is an adults only workshop due to the tools and techniques involved. The atmosphere is gentle and creative—perfect for anyone who wants to slow down, learn a practical skill, and keep clothing out of landfills and in their wardrobe rotation.

As you mend, enjoy a small grazing table of finger foods along with alcoholic spritzers and non alcoholic iced tea coolers in soft, seasonal flavors. Think citrus mint, peach vanilla, or berry hibiscus—refreshing, simple, and easy to sip while stitching.
You’ll leave with a repaired garment, new skills, and the confidence to keep mending at home.

Extra Details and Special Notes for some events

  • One ticket per maker; if a parent is helping a child with one project and doesn’t want one of their own to work on, that’s considered one ticket.
  • Our projects are as eco-friendly as possible, and often feature reclaimed, upcycled or recycled elements.
  • These are outdoor event, under the cover of our lower porch. Wear comfortable, suitable clothing for the weather conditions, and items that you don’t mind getting paint or glue on
  • If you pre-registered and can’t attend, please share your tickets with someone who can. We don’t offer refunds because supplies are prepared/acquired ahead of time to accommodate all the participants we expect.
  • Our property is a working farm, so there are livestock and dogs. The terrain is rugged and uneven, and occasionally muddy or slick.
  • While we want everyone to be able to visit and attend our events on our family farm, it’s not a property suitable to everyone’s needs or abilities. Call ahead if this is a concern so we can discuss and see if our event(s) are a good fit for your needs.
  • Events are noted with the ages most suitable for attending.
